Calm Chris Dobey blew his Premier League rivals away by not stressing over wind woe.

The Geordie star grabbed his first nightly win of 2025 on a controversial night in Rotterdam’s Ahoy Arena.

However, not everyone was smiling in the Netherlands with Gerwyn Price launching a furious criticism of the venue. The Iceman had a meltdown and wants the Ahoy booted off the Premier League schedule in the future due to constant problems over the years with drafts blowing across the stage.

Rivals such as Luke Littler and Stephen Bunting opted for heavier equipment to try and combat the issue, but Dobey just stayed with the same and triumphed. The Bedlington star said: “Yeah, I think you can’t think too far into it. I just used my normal darts, my normal set-up and just let the darts do the talking.

“Obviously, I think Luke Littler went up three grams. Obviously, Nathan already throws a heavy dart and I think Stephen was a 23. I just play darts. It was hard, but I wouldn’t say it was the toughest. I think a few years back, if I remember rightly, it was really tough and I had never played in this arena, but I got the gist this year.

“I think I dealt with it a little bit better than I did the previous, so I’m just delighted to come out the winner. I wouldn’t say we’re used to it. There’s conditions everywhere you go that it’s different and it’s just how you deal with them. I’ve touched on it before. I played a couple of years ago here and the conditions were bad. I just dealt with it a lot better this year. I think they tried to help it.

“They’ve done things differently this year and it wasn’t as bad as the previous years, but, yeah, you could feel. As I say, you can’t do much about it. It’s the same for every player. I don’t know what it is. It could be bigger venues. It could be doors open. It’s hard to explain. You don’t know to this day what goes on. I’ve played some good stuff in the conditions, so I could play like this every week. It doesn’t bother me.”

Dobey’s victory launched him into the play-off mix and also gave him a chance to amusingly silence stablemate Nathan Aspinall who has been giving him some recent stick for being near the bottom of the table.

Littler is also in the same camp and Dobey laughed: “They’re two great lads and it’s a great stable to be in, but I think they’ll have a few words to say and have a laughing joke about. It’ll shut Nathan up for a little bit, anyway!

“I’m over the moon. It’s always great to be winning and it’s nice to be back in the winning circle. There was never any doubt that I would win one. I felt comfortable. I’ve just proved myself right. If I can keep producing darts like I did, I’ve always got a chance. I’m just happy to put myself back in the mix and in the run for it.”

Dobey, meanwhile, isn’t phased by non-selection for upcoming World Series events in Denmark and the USA. He said: “It doesn’t bother me. They can choose who they want to choose. It’s down to them. I’m not going to grumble. I’m not going to call them or what. I’m just happy to be involved and it’s down to them. I’ve got to play my way into them.

“If they don’t want to choose me, then that’s up to them. I’m not going to call anybody out. They make their decisions for a reason. Just look at what they’ve done in the Premier League the last few years. They’ve made the right choice.”
